Andrey Kiritchenko, a Ukrainian electronic musician, sound designer, and founder of the Next Sound Festival, released his new album "MARIA" on February 25, 2024. The album is a tribute to the life and work of Maria Prymachenko, a famous artist who symbolized the liberation revival of Ukraine. Through this album, the author expresses his endless admiration for her work.
The musician has been studying Prymachenko's biography and art for a long time. Andrey admires Maria's spirit. She endured various difficulties in life, suffered from severe illness, and experienced a moment of glory in her later years but still managed to retain her unique worldview and genuine simplicity. According to the musician, Maria's lack of formal artistic education allowed her imagination to expand to an infinite potential, making her art exceptional.
"The images in Maria's "naive art" resonate with archetypal spaces that reflect her national identity, personal aspirations, and faith in love, goodness, and the beauty of the world around us. Her works feature visual elements of rural life, Ukrainian culture, strange animals, flowers, and even celestial bodies," says Kiritchenko. Andrey found inspiration in her approach and wanted to create an amalgam of sound textures to convey this philosophy to the listener.
It is imperative to note that one of the main reasons for the release of this album was the devastating incident that occurred on February 25, 2022, in Ivankiv, Kyiv region. During the Russian bombing, the Ivankiv Historical and Local History Museum, which held an invaluable collection of 25 artworks by the artist, was burned down, with only ten pieces salvaged. Through this album, Andrey Kiritchenko aims to raise public awareness of the impending destruction of the Ukrainian cultural heritage due to the relentless aggression of the Russian forces.
"MARIA" is released by the Touched Music UK label, which features electronic music legends such as Plaid, Autechre, Scanner, John Tejada, Dron, B12, and many others.
50% of the album sales proceeds will go to Cancer Charities, while the remaining half will be distributed among various Ukrainian Charities. Buy and stream "MARIA" here.
