Joe Claussell joins the Spring Revisited project with a jazz-infused house music remix of a classic funk track by the iconic Fatback Band.
Spring Revisited is a project inviting influential house producers to reinterpret classic tracks from New York's Spring Records, which operated in the '70s, releasing many seminal disco, soul and funk tracks.
Fatback Band was one of Spring Records' most popular artists, alongside others ranging from Millie Jackson to Isaac Hayes. Spring Revisited is breathing new life into these iconic tracks, which have charted Top 10 on Beatport and Traxsource, in addition to receiving radio support on stations ranging from BBC R2 to Kiss FM.
Hailing from New York, Joe Claussell is a veteran producer and iconic DJ who first-hand understands the importance of Spring Records' legacy, and the impact it had on the New York club scene.
Travelling the world as a headline DJ, Joe Claussell plays regularly at events ranging from Italy's Kappa FuturFestival to Netherland's Dekmantel Festival. He is also a revered producer who's released tracks and remixes through outlets such as Toy Tonics, Rebirth, and Crosstown Rebels, alongside many outings on his own imprint, Spiritual Life.
This new remix of Fatback Band's "The Snake" keeps the jazz-infused funk of the original, and turns it into a feel-good house track with the instrumental melodies still intact. He has a history of reworking classics by music titans such as Femi Kuti, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, Nina Simone, and many others, which makes him the perfect choice for the Spring Revisited project.
Joe Claussell's remix of "The Snake" keeps the original's trumpets, samba percussion, and embraces its Latin roots. It's a slick rework that subtly tightens up the recordings of the original's live performances so they can be intertwined with sequenced percussion. Some of the percussion is from a drum machine, while some of the other drums are looped sections taken from the original. This new version transcends genres, and is the perfect soundtrack for dancing in the sunshine.
