INVOCAMVS — SEÑAL MUERTA [MAØ Records]

Some records arrive announcing themselves loudly. Others emerge more like a frequency picked up at the edge of reception: persistent, dark and increasingly difficult to ignore.

Señal Muerta, the first release on Barcelona’s MAØ Records, belongs to the latter category.

Issued as MAØ001, the four-track EP introduces both a producer and a label through a shared interest in hypnotic repetition, industrial texture and rhythmic detail. Invocamvs — the techno alias of José Manuel Díaz Forte — has been active under the name since 2023, but the project is supported by more than twenty years of production experience.

That history matters because Señal Muerta does not feel like an attempt to discover a sound from scratch. It feels like the result of a sound that has already been investigated for a long time.

The EP’s four tracks — “Maston”, “No Limit”, “Señal Muerta” and “The Animal” — operate inside a deliberately restricted palette. Heavy drums, sharp percussion, layered rhythms and industrial textures form the foundation, while subtle variations within those structures provide the movement.

“Maston” establishes the transmission.

The emphasis is physical, but the arrangement suggests something more complex beneath the surface. Rhythm becomes architecture; repetition becomes a way of controlling attention.

“No Limit” continues that process by leaning into the hypnotic potential of the loop. In this context, repetition is not the absence of development. It is the condition that allows development to become almost imperceptible.

That is one of the essential qualities of hypnotic techno: change does not always have to announce itself.

The title track, “Señal Muerta”, introduces the EP’s most evocative concept. A dead signal implies interruption, absence and failed communication, but also the possibility of residual information — fragments still moving through a system after the original message has disappeared.

That ambiguity suits the record.

Invocamvs’ music is built around pulses and layers that remain active even when the overall structure feels locked in place. The tracks suggest motion without requiring constant transformation.

“The Animal” completes the cycle. By this point, the EP’s vocabulary is fully established, and the final track functions less as a conclusion than as the last stage of a continuous process.

This is also where the identity of MAØ Records becomes clearer.

The label’s stated interest in dark, mental and hypnotic techno is not treated as a simple genre description. It becomes an approach to sound: raw textures, multirhythmic structures and carefully developed progressions, with each release intended to function as a self-contained micro-universe.

Señal Muerta is precisely that kind of contained environment.

Its physical dimension is undeniable. Invocamvs has developed the project through clubs and festivals across Europe, with vinyl playing a particularly important role in his DJ practice. Yet the EP is equally concerned with what happens when the dancefloor logic is examined closely.

The kick is there to move the body.

The layers are there to occupy the mind.

The repetition connects the two.

That relationship gives the record its identity. Instead of separating functional techno from detailed listening music, Señal Muerta places them in the same space.

For MAØ Records, this is an effective way to begin a catalogue: not by attempting to define every possible direction, but by establishing one particular frequency and staying with it long enough for its details to emerge.

MAØ001 is the first signal.

Whether the transmission continues through the same darkness or develops into something else will be written in the releases that follow. For now, Señal Muerta provides a clear opening statement — four tracks, one producer and a new label building its world from rhythm, texture and repetition.

The signal may be dead.

The pulse isn't.
