London’s Renee Thomas aka TheGoddessMusic brings you the Ashe EP, released on the 5th September via Roger Sanchez’s Stealth label. Ashe is the Yoruba word for gift or blessing, which is exactly what TheGoddessMusic brings you with this stunning 5-track EP. A gift to you, and also herself. After releasing incredible house music of all different styles, TheGoddessMusic has found her unique, signature sound. And you are going to love it.
Ashe EP is the soundtrack to falling in love, and about when somebody loves you deeply, and you love them too, and that no matter how scary, you look inside yourself and finally begin to love yourself too.
First up on Ashe is Find Me. Feel the chords chosen by TheGoddessMusic pull you in and mesmerise you. It’s easy to get lost in this track. The driving, sliding bass is like hypnosis for the soul, taking you into the beautiful abyss. TheGoddessMusic explains more: I need my love’s words of affirmation to show me how they feel and to let them know that I want them to give every bit of them and not hold back. It’s the time to show in every way how they love me in order for me to also give love in return. Find Me is also a plea and longing to be shown just how much they are desired as they have never experienced it before and want to feel every bit of that person.
With Show Me Love, the second track, TheGoddessMusic breathes new life into the Robin S classic with a high-energy Afro House twist. This reimagined version of “Show Me Love” retains the heart of the original while introducing a fresh sound for a new generation. "Kieron originally reached out to topline one of my tracks, but his take on ‘Show Me Love’ instantly resonated. I knew I had to make it my own—familiar, yet entirely fresh,” says TheGoddessMusic. “It speaks to the evolution of my sound and ties deeply into the story of my upcoming EP.”
Feel No Way is a song about feeling liberated and not caring about those who look down on you or have negative thoughts untoward you based upon how you move through life and your success. Feel No Way is an expression in Jamaican Patois, meaning to not worry about something. Rising above the envy of others who may act a certain way towards you. it is a confidence mantra many can relate to and feel a sense of self-empowerment.
StanBizzy had a draft idea for the fourth track, Something. TheGoddessMusic created the afro drum pattern, and then wrote the lyrics and recorded vocals and produced the track deliciously. ‘Something’ is about the very beginning of falling in love. I am feeling ‘something’ in my heart and realising this but feeling nervous, hoping that I feel safe with them as I can’t be without them. They evoke feelings I have never felt before.’
Titular track Ashe is a spiritual celebration and awakening, the perfect mix of a strong tribal beat that makes you want to dance, and a hypnotising mantra, chanted to focus your mind to become one with the music. The Yoruba word àṣẹ, is the energy force that and makes things happen. Ashe is alos gender-neutral name, the English meaning is ash tree clearing. In Yoruba, it means command, power and authority. The ability to make it happen.
With music this good, it’s no wonder Roger Sanchez was blown away by TheGoddessMusic’s voice and her impressive production skills from the moment he pressed play. Now its your turn to do the same.
