OTEE opens a new chapter with Cloud Collision, the first release on Open Water and a five-track EP centred on rhythm, atmosphere and the controlled development of tension. The Berlin-based DJ and producer brings years of experience behind the decks and in the studio to a debut that avoids chasing immediate impact, favouring a more gradual relationship with the dancefloor.

The title track establishes the EP’s direction through repetition, measured progression and a careful balance between percussion and space. Rather than relying on oversized drops or dramatic structural changes, “Cloud Collision” allows its groove to develop at its own pace, offering a functional but considered approach to club music.

“Moto” builds on this foundation, exploring the interplay between movement and texture. Its rhythmic framework provides a steady sense of forward motion, while the individual elements work collectively rather than competing for attention. It is a restrained production style that places the emphasis on cohesion and cumulative effect.

“Aktion Reaktion” expands the EP’s rhythmic vocabulary. Its title suggests a dynamic between opposing forces, reflected in the push and pull of its club-oriented electronics. OTEE maintains a clear sense of control throughout, letting the groove evolve while keeping the arrangement firmly within the record’s understated framework.

The B-side introduces a slightly more introspective dimension. “Retrograde” suggests movement that does not follow a linear path, developing the EP’s core ideas through repetition and subtle shifts rather than a decisive change in direction. “Parabola” closes the release with a title that evokes a curved trajectory, reinforcing the record’s preference for gradual transformation over sudden gestures.

Across all five tracks, Cloud Collision demonstrates an understanding of how production can balance dancefloor functionality with atmosphere. Its drum-led, loop-based structures provide consistency, while the textural elements add depth beyond purely utilitarian club music. The result leaves room for both physical movement and closer listening.

As Open Water’s debut release, the EP offers an early indication of the label’s musical direction. Its foundations are recognisably connected to Berlin’s club culture, but OTEE avoids leaning too heavily on familiar references or stylistic shorthand. Instead, the focus remains on rhythm, space and the gradual accumulation of energy.

Cloud Collision ultimately favours continuity over spectacle. Designed for the deeper end of the dancefloor, it operates on the understanding that a track does not need to demand attention to make an impact; sometimes, its strength lies in how naturally it becomes part of the room.
