Following two albums and his timeless SOPHIE collaboration ‘Sweat’, London-based DJ/Producer/Songwriter SONIKKU returns to the esteemed Bella Union imprint with new double-A 12” ‘Heatwave/Drowning’. The first single, upbeat but wistful, ‘Heatwave’ is out now, followed by the vinyl & full digital EP on 10^th October. 

Of SONIKKU’s two previous albums on Bella Union, his latest LP ‘Whirlwind of Malevolence’ won support from Mixmag, BBC 6, BBC Radio 1, Reprezent Radio, Notion, DMY, Rinse, DJ Mag Italia, Beatportal, Triple J… ‘Heatwave/Drowning’ continues his most prolific year to date. Beginning with the January release of his ‘The World is Bleak but Sometimes Beautiful’ EP, he went on to DJ across the US, remix pop princess Ava Max, and perform in London for both Keep Hush and this year's Soho Pride. His most recent release, July’s Kissing in the Strobe Light’ EP on Jaguar’s UTOPIA imprint was supported heavily by Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music. He’s impossible to put in a box, crafting a sound that is undeniably and fiercely his own. 

‘Heatwave’: a slice of summer dancefloor fun with a melancholic edge, as a synth melody duets throughout with a poppy yet yearning female vocal singing of holiday romance and short-lived joy. Layers of upbeat percussion over the beat give a breaksy feel. Lively, but wistful, deceptively simple with SONIKKU’s signature tech savvy light hand on the controls and mix of hedonism and emotion. 

‘I wrote 'Heatwave' after a road trip through Rhodes, blasting 'Stereo Love' by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina in my rental. Watching the sun set over mountains and the sky turn blood red, soaking up that feeling of being somewhere new and unknown, I wanted to write a 'holiday song' - that Balearic track you hear on the radio or in a beach bar that you can't get enough of, you have to find out what it is and take it home like a souvenir.’

SONIKKU is one of the most exciting genre-fluid names in electronic right now and a key component of London’s club culture. He’s played at Village Underground, fabric, Corsica Studios, C12 Brussels, Public Works (SF), Carpet Shop Peckham, alongside artists inc. BIIANCO, MCR-T, Jaguar, Machine Woman…, previously collaborated with the late icon SOPHIE, Partiboi69, Orchid, Deto Black amm, and released on Steel City Dance Discs and Lobster Theremin. 

With upcoming shows in Mexico City, Glasgow, São Paulo, Rio, Brussels, Leeds and Birmingham, things are certainly heating up for SONIKKU. All eyes are on him for this next release…
