Tinlicker release their version of The Boxer Rebellion’s much-loved ‘Diamonds’

Dutch duo Tinlicker, currently touring major EU & North American festivals, release a new collaboration with The Boxer Rebellion of the band’s emotional and revered hit ‘Diamonds’, out now on Remember The Future/[PIAS]. 

Tinlicker pursue a subtly powerful blend of organic & electronic sounds, evoking a range of deeply felt responses from euphoria to sadness without loss of danceability – a testament to their pin-sharp production skills. The Boxer Rebellion’s Nathan Nicholson has been their collab partner several times since 2020, and notably across several tracks on Tinlicker’s recent album ‘Cold Enough For Snow’, making this collaboration a natural and welcome progression. 

‘When we asked Nathan Nicholson to work with us on what later became 'Be Here And Now' back in 2020, this came from our fanship of his band The Boxer Rebellion’ Tinlicker says. ‘So having the opportunity to work on a new version of their biggest hit 'Diamonds' feels like a perfect gift. A very good reason to release our first remix in more than three years...’

The Boxer Rebellion & Tinlicker ‘Diamonds (Further Than I Ever Was)’: In the original, Nicholson’s haunting, soul-stirring voice singing the heart-rending lyrics, woven with an equally moving indie guitar sound, have made it a life-soundtrack anthem to many. Tinlicker have made it more electro, but lost none of those qualities, adding layers of echo and reverb, a slower fade-in using part of the refrain ‘start to fade’ as a mantra, before faster beats and breakbeat drums herald fuller lyrics. A plangent guitar theme and slow, melodic synth chords keep feelings running high. 

‘I’ve been lucky enough to work with Tinlicker for years and consider both Micha and Jordi close friends’ says Nathan Nicholson. ‘So when they asked if they could put together a new, reimagined version of ‘Diamonds,’ I was truly honoured and immediately said yes. We absolutely love what they’ve done with it—their version brings a kind of magic to one of our most beloved tracks.’
