Intimate 120-person event part of El Tony Mate’s Selected Sessions community initiative
Supported by local crews Atipik & Boite á Malice
El Tony Mate’s latest invite-only community event in their Selected Sessions series saw Parisian headliner Bambounou rock Marseille’s (FR) ‘Merguez Fripe’ cult fave second hand thrift store on 7th May. The quirky haunt of those in the know for cool apparel was suddenly packed with lucky invited guests raving to Bambounou’s unique mix of futuristic techno, IDM, tribal… arising from his French-Malian-Polish roots and love of dystopian sci-fi. Ably supported by local Marseille collectives atipik and Boîte à Malice, each inviting one artist to perform during the night - Kern1000 for atipik and Zizone for Boîte à Malice - the event is now available for all to stream.
“Selected Sessions is El Tony Mate’s way of connecting music, culture and community through curated, intimate events,” says El Tony Mate’s Culture Specialist, Ellen Fölmli. “After building the format in Switzerland and bringing the first international edition to life in Marseille, we’re excited to continue expanding the concept across Europe throughout the year.”
At each El Tony Mate Selected Sessions, attendees see a globally renowned headliner (e.g. Sofia Kourtesis, Young Marco, DJ Tennis, Innervisions’ EDE …) alongside selected local talent, in cities across Europe in unexpected spaces including Amsterdam’s legendary Condomerie, a Basel fondue bar, a barber shop & La Taqueria (Zurich)…
El Tony Mate, known to clubbers everywhere for their ‘responsible raving' natural-energy drinks brand, curate the Selected Sessions raves to contribute to the vibrant music scene, championing intimacy over scale, creativity over commerciality, and genuine connection over convention. They also provide DJ academies / Producer Academies to encourage fresh music talent.
The Selected Sessions and Academies carry out El Tony’s broader mission to energize and give back to the communities that shape contemporary electronic culture, as part of their ‘Culture Collective’ wing connecting music, art, events and creativity with a community focus.
